>> What Do Road Signs Read

Road signs in Route960 are signs that actually appear on Japanese roads. As some of you may not be familiar with them, here are English descriptions:

Route Numbers

A round blue triangle indicate that the road is a national route. The number written on the center is the number of the route.

Tip: Japanese national route are not always administrated directly by the national government. High-numbered routes are usually administrated by prefecture governments. Some of those "phony" national routes are very famous (or infamous?) because they are so phony that you have to walk in order to get through.

Warning Signs

Yellow diamonds are warning signs. These signs appear at locations where you should drive carefully.
Watch out for falling rocks.
Bumps ahead.
Steep uphill ahead.
Steep downhill ahead.
Drive carefully.

Letter Signs

These aren't really road signs, strictly speaking, since these aren't designated as road signs by law. However these signs appear quite often for supplemental purposes at locations where road conditions are outstanding, e.g. where the road is extremely dangerous, where accidents occur quite frequently, where a dead end is ahead with no detour route.
Don't jump, it's dangerous. Danger ahead.
Drive carefully. Long uphill.
Many accidents reported here. Long downhill.
Watch your speed. Beware steep slopes.
Slow down. Watch your track.
Brake! Keep your eyes on your track.
Accelerate.
Tip: "Not designated by law" means their appearances and sentences they bear vary at locations and locations. There are vast variety of them, including illustrated versions and pretty hand-made versions.
